very very sad!

it is indeed a very sad day!
The TN govt gives a go ahead to the Koodangulam Nuclear project!
Time and again the Governments are carelessly implementing projects and policies (and laws) that suit them - politically and monetarily.
what a shame..
Here in this case they are going ahead without thinking a wee bit about the safety!
we, a country where govts have been incapable of even policing a gate for trespass or pilferage, imagine them getting a fool proof, sound safe projects out of proven scientific catastrophes.

and in a typical way they are now planning for slapping sedition- a favorite tool against sensible civil society members.

Shame..
and remember - we all are to be blamed too if a major catastrophe happens out there (imminent is it?) for just not reacting strongly and averting this decision of the TN govt. prolly many of us are fooled to think (like the famous Cho Ramasamy) that this will solve all the power crisis of the state. hmm, how foolish can one get? search and check out for the details and data displayed by lots of qualified people.

Iam forced to think, may be, may be, we all deserve a catastrophe...but my wish is those village(r)s around the project are not affected but we all shameless urban consumers..
shame on us!
it has indeed been one of the saddest days for me in my life.

I have a mixed feeling as an Urban Consumer, Can't Say sad, Can't Say good,

Need of the hour is immediate source of energy, but being a citizen of TN/IN, we need to act on it and find out alternative sources to produce the same and dismantle the existing atomic projects. Until then No other alternatives.

For an example TN has 800+ km of coast zone high tide zones are 120km+. But none of the TN universities encourage Tidal Electricity generation as part of their Syllabus. Is that not sad?.

16000+ Km of highly populated 1500+kgs worth of moving vehicle in road, have we ever considered this domain to produce electricity? if someone says that how about moving the papers with govt?

Apart from these resources other proven renewable sources are wind/solar pv/hydel

Without enabling them, can't just point my fingures towards govt that they are doing bad planning.

utilising such non-conventional yet safe and eco-friendly technologies is also the Govt's look out! not ours!!
they could also think of cutting all transmission losses and encourage as well as practice austerity!
(read last issue of thalanmai for a good article by arasu on all alternatives possible and how & where we are goofing up)

    "Not Ours"
Does'nt look good before spitting on some others face as thooo.

I thought we are part of this Govt. If the govt employeers doesnt execute it, why can't we try as individual?

I am not a supporter of any individual govt, but trying to find out good ways ehre. honestly executing some projects in AP along with the govt support.

There is not much chance for anti-kudankulam protests to succeed. Too many people want power to watch their TVs, run their air-conditioners, or run the agricultural pumps, etc. Unless we move away from the zombie culture, of depending on government handouts, we cannot avoid the big schemes, the big power plants, big dams, big mines, and megacities, that lets govt. centralize power and control.
No one knows the full scale of the destruction at Fukushima, since there has been a lot of cover-up. But Kudankulam has been imposed, against the wishes of the people there.

san- hav sent u a mail reg thalanmai.
good to know about ur projects with AP govt..hope they succeed and get us all good energy!
point taken about thoo..will be removed..
try and read a fantastic article on power/energy and the real situ in TN and how ro overcome it, in last issue of Thalanmai.

anon- very true..on one side we cant all gobble and consume so much and demand so much..but its sad that these mindless consumers are not bothered about the hardships those vilage(r)s will face..all those mindless supporters shud go and live there..
still, we are in a good position a few twitches and some rational approach we can have enof power.and one nuke project will not solve all our demands..
